Rules of the Game: Mahjong

Mahjong is an exciting board game for four players in which you need to make combinations of tiles. The main goal is to collect a winning hand consisting of four sets (sequences or threes) and one pair.

How does the game go?

Each player gets 13 tiles (the player who starts first gets 14).

The moves are made in turn: the player takes a new tile and decides which of his or her tiles to discard to get closer to the winning combination.

If you manage to collect 4 sets + 1 pair, you declare ‘Mahjong’ and become the winner!

The game continues until someone wins or the deck runs out of tiles.

The Main Combinations in Mahjong

• Pong - three identical tiles (for example, three ‘twos of bamboo’).
• Chow - three consecutive tiles of the same suit (for example, 4-5-6 symbols).
• Kong - four identical tiles (allows you to take an extra tile).
• Pair - two identical tiles (for example, two ‘eight of hearts’).

The player who is the first to collect 4 sets + 1 pair declares victory, and the scoring begins.
